Kuchi, kuchi lai lai(hands clasped in pious embrace)… (Bopping head) nehi, nehi, baba…(Chuckles). Aha no mind me, I am just hung up on Indian lifestyle; well in truth maybe it’s just how gorgeous (take that back) I mean how BEAUTIFUL they are.
The story began a few days ago when our cable subscription expired and so in desperation caused by acute boredom my brothers and I perused the channels where we were accosted by the blank screens with those boldly inscribed words
E16 YOU ARE CURRENTLY NOT ABLE TO VIEW THIS CHANNEL…something something…PLEASE CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Hey I only remember the words because I happen to have very hot brains in addition to my fab abs-I know what you are thinking I am not blowing my trumpet…(this is aside from the fact that I was living in BROKE-lyn at the time).
Well, on this particular day we stumbled on this station airing freely, we couldn’t imagine our luck; so we immediately arranged our popcorn (biscuit and Viju milk) and we laid back and watched. It indeed was an adventure, from the hills with lush green vegetation and cascading waterfalls as two love birds dance and sing; to the electrified cities filled with Suspense, Intrigue, Passion and a second chance at life (the last part I coveted from one of those sizzling Mexican Tele-novella’s…hehehe)
It seemed like they had not a single iota of imperfection, the matter got me asking God some seemly ridiculous questions like exactly how much time He spent knitting them Indians so that I could measure that with how much time he made us black people…at least our own is good.
My admiration soon turned to infatuation; I suddenly couldn’t seem to see that they too were humans like me with their own laundry which is not always clean. That their streets are not littered with dancing streams of colourful love birds not afraid to express their love that they too like many other developing countries think that the American dream could be theirs when they eventually get that GREEN card. That they have the poor with them and that they don’t always have the answers to all of life’s questions, “Sighs”.
Hey, I am not bowed in despair, Nah…you see I have only learned to love what is mine…yeah there’s no light, I still haven’t paid my cable subscription, heck I kinda need a career booster right now but I personally know a lot of beautiful people; heck we even won the Miss World title and even the brothers did well recently in their own Mr. World.
Naija is our is our own, we’ve got the most exciting people in the world, our continental dishes are crazy, we work hard and party hard and no matter how badly people ridicule us they just can’t do without us.
So when next those Indian beauties flicker their eyes at you flicker it back babie…(dudes no try am oooh that’s for the ladies only…lol).
